The services provided are ADR monitoring, causality assessment, and treatment, patient counseling regarding adherence to medications, therapeutic drug monitoring of antiepileptics and immunosuppressants, drug information services regarding dose modification and drug interactions and polysomnographic services
B. Therapeutic drug monitoring and Urinary VMA assay:
TDM service to the hospital is being provided for drugs such as tacrolimus, cyclosporine, phenytoin, phenobarbitone, carbamazepine and valproic acid. During 2012-2013, 692 TDM and urinary assays have been performed. It is planned to extend the TDM service to more drugs of oncology and neurology. TDM is performed using HPLC and LCMS-MS.
C. Adverse drug reaction monitoring center
Pharmacovigilance is the science and activities relating to the detection, assessment, understanding, and prevention of adverse effects or any other drug-related problem. It is essential to continue monitoring of drugs and their adverse reactions after drug approvals. Hence WHO collaborating center for international drug monitoring namely Uppsala Monitoring center has been established in 1978. It develops the database of ADRs throughout the world. With the same objective, Government of India re-started “Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI)” for assuring drug safety in June 2010. Previously the drug safety programme was called National Pharmacovigilance Programme (NPP). JIPMER has a separate unit for monitoring and analyzing ADRs since November 2004. The center has actively contributed to the national database of ADRs. Presently, under the PvPI, JIPMER has Adverse Drug Reaction monitoring center with a technical associate and was inaugurated in November 2010. Monthly on an average 129 ADRs are being collected from JIPMER.
All the healthcare professionals are requested to report the adverse drug reactions by filling out the forms and dropping in the red boxes placed throughout the hospital. Reporting can also be made by filling ADR forms (below link provided) and sending back to our email-id drjipmer[at]gmail[dot]com
D. Polysomnography studies
Polysomnography studies are being conducted in the Division of Clinical Pharmacology in patients with symptoms suggestive of obstructive sleep apnoea/hypopnoea syndrome.
