- The Dept. of Psychiatry, JIPMER conducted the 28th Annual Conference of the Indian Psychiatric Society - Tamil Nadu Branch on June 29-30, 2013 in JIPMER Auditorium. More than 230 delegates attended the scientific meet.
- The Dept. of Psychiatry and Paediatrics, JIPMER conducted a Regional workshop for tools for diagnosis of Autism spectrum disorder on 19th August 2017 in JIPMER. More than 100 delegates attended the same.
Upgradation of Academic Research Output
Research Collaboration with Pondicherry University and Deakin University, Australia are planned in future in order to develop new training programmes including Ph.D in Clinical Psychology and undertake collaborative research tapping international expertise.
Upgradation of Educational Facilities
Intake of Post graduate trainees was increased to 4 per year in 2015. The Department is regularly contacted by various institutes in Puducherry and Tamil Nadu to provide psychiatry exposure and training to paramedical staff. As of now at least 2-3 batches of nursing students both undergraduate and post graduate and 2-3 batches of social workers are trained round the year on rotational basis.
Upgradation of Patient Care Services
The Department newly acquired a video EEG machine and a Repetitive Trans cranial Magnetic Stimulation machine in order to enhance diagnostic and therapeutic armamentarium.
New Psychological Testing Materials have been procured with an eye on improving diagnostic psychometry services.
Addition of Manpower in the form of new recruits including a full-time clinical psychologist cum tutor and medical social worker cum tutor in 2013 to provide multi-modal care.
Many new special clinics have been added in the last 5 years to improve quality of patient care and resident training.
